Difficult: This trip has an activity rating of moderate-strenuous; Guests should be prepared for multiple hours of activity each day. Snow hikes range from 4 to 9 hours.
Snowshoeing in North Macedonia can be a wonderful experience, offering enthusiasts the opportunity to explore pristine snow-covered landscapes variety of terrains suitable for snowshoeing, including gentle slopes and more challenging trails. The mountainous landscapes provide opportunities for both beginners and experienced snowshoers.North Macedonia is known for its warm hospitality and delicious traditional cuisine. After a day of snowshoeing, you can enjoy local dishes in nearby towns and villages.
You meet the guide at the airport. Depending on your arrival time we will be able to visit the city of Skopje later transfer to Mavrovo National Park 1.30h. drive accommodation in guest house in Mavrovo.
After breakfast, we drive 20min. to the start point of the hike. The first part of the hike is oak forest after it’s open space all the way to the peak called Sandaktas 2000m. Later after the hike, we go to the village Zirovnica 30min. drive, meet with the host, and with 10 minutes. We walk to his house, have dinner, and have accommodation there. On the way, we will visit the old monastery St.John Bigorski.
Duration of the tour (5-6h. Length 14km. 800m. altitude difference).
Today we go to the peak of Ploca 2050m.at Desat Mountain on the border with Albania. In the beginning, we start on an unpaved road in the oak forest after is open space. The peak is a border line with Albania and Macedonia with beautiful views. We go back to the village and we have a transfer to the village Gorna Belica at 1420m. 1.40h. drive accommodation and dinner in the guest house. Depending on the snow conditions it’s a chance so we don’t go all the way to the house with a car maybe 10 min. walk.
The duration of the tour is (5 to 6 hours. The length is 16km. Altitude difference 1000m.).
WWe start snow hiking from the village, hiking to Carevec peak 2100m. Borderline with Macedonia and Albania. Duration of the tour (4-5h.length 12km Altitude difference 700m.). After the hike, we go to the Ohrid city with 40min. Drive a Short walk sightseeing the city have dinner and accommodation in the city.
Amazing scenery contrasting a snowy white mountain overlooking the surface of the blue color of Ohrid Lake. We have 40min.transfer from the hotel to the point where we will start with the hiking.
The tour starts at about 1650m. This road is not cleaned regularly so the ski tour might start 100m lower in conditions of heavy snow on the road. After 40min. walk we exit the forest where usually in good weather conditions we can start having a nice view of Ohrid Lake. We here have another 1.30h.touring to the Magaro 2255m.highest peak of Galicica National Park with beautiful views of the Ohrid and Prespa Lake. After the hike, we transferred to Bitola City, accommodation in the city Bitola. Duration of the tour (4 to 5h. Length 12km. Altitude difference 800m.).
After breakfast, we have 20min. Drive to the start point at 1360m. Maybe we will use a 4×4 jeep to get the snow line. We continue to the peak Pelister 2601m. From the peak, a beautiful view of the Prespa lake mounts Olympus in Grece, Rila in Bulgaria. From the peak, we returned to Bitola city later we will have dinner in the guest house in Dihovo village. The duration of the tour is (7 to 8 hours. Lenght 23km. Altitude difference 1240m.).
The last hike is in the National Park Pelister to the big mountain lake one of the trademarks in the Pelister National Park. We have a 15-minute drive from the city. The trail starts from the weekend settlement Nize pole at 1170 meters and passes through mountain pasture areas and beautiful views of surrounding mountains. We have 3 hours going up to the lake at 2218m. and 2h. back to the car. After a short rest, we have to transfer to Skopje for 2 hours. drive. Later we have the last Dinner and accommodation for this trip.
Guest will need to arrive in Skopje or Ohrid airport on or before the Start date. We will return to Skopje or Ohrid by late afternoon/evening on one day before departures on the airport.
