This is a moderate ski touring trip in the most beautiful mountains in Macedonia. Macedonian mountains are not as high or steep as the Alps, but they are just perfect for a great ski-touring adventure, for all kinds of ski-touring levels, from beginners as well as experienced skiers. Ski touring in untouched and pristine nature, fresh ski lines on all possible varieties of the snow surface. On this ski tour, we transfer to different locations and every day we will discover new mountains and routes with vertical descents of up to 1000m. and you will be able to leave your signature on some untouched slopes of the highest mountains in Macedonia. Besides enjoying wonderful views of the mountains, on this trip we will visit different cities like Skopje, Ohrid, and Bitola to discover Macedonian culture, tradition, and taste Macedonian food and vine. On this eight-day ski tour, we will enjoy five days of ski touring and skiing in our four national parks close to the border with Macedonia and Albania.
Your guide will meet you at the Skopje airport. Depending on your arrival time, we will be able to visit the city of Skopje. Later, drive to Popova Shapka ski center, where we will spend the first two nights.
The first two days, we are based in a hotel at the Popova Shapka ski mountain resort at 1750m. The choice of the route will depend on the weather and snow conditions. There are a couple of options. Kazani peak is 2567m. Blue peak 2550m. The duration of the tours is around 5 hours, going up and down the slope with an ascent of 1000m and skiing down 1000m. At the end of day 3, we transfer to a hotel in Mavrovo National Park.
After the early breakfast, we will be picked up by 4X4 vehicles and transported to the starting point of our ski tour, at about 1450 meters of altitude. Depending on the snow conditions, the starting point can be lower. In the beginning. The plan is to rich Kepi Bard or the White Hat. Kepi Bard is positioned right before Korab, the highest peak in Macedonia. When we are rich to the base of Kepi Bard peak, we will see our descent line. We ski down and with a small traverse in the end, we can ski down to our starting point. After skiing we transfer to Ohrid city, the UNESCO-protected cultural and natural heritage site. We will settle in a hotel in the city. Total ascent for the day: 1300 meters. Ski down: 1300 meters. Duration from 6 to 7 hours.
Today we will enjoy a fine rest day in the city of Ohrid and the surroundings. Guided city tour followed by a coffee by the lake. Ohrid is a UNESCO-protected cultural heritage city, that is the home of several historical sites, such as a medieval fortress, Early Christian basilicas, museums, and lovely architecture. Free afternoon.
Amazing scenery contrasting a snowy white mountain overlooking the surface of blue color of Ohrid Lake. We have a 40-minute transfer from the hotel to the point where we will start the ski tour. The tour starts at about 1650m. This road is not cleaned regularly, so the ski tour might start 100m lower in conditions of heavy snow on the road. After we exit the forest, where usually in good weather conditions, we can start having a nice view of Ohrid Lake. From the Magaro 2255m.We have beautiful views of the Ohrid and Prespa Lakes from the other side. Skiing down, we chose depending on the weather and snow conditions. After skiing, we transfer to the hotel in Bitola city, a 1.30 h drive. Total ascent for the day: 700 meters. Ski down: 700 meters. Duration 5 hours. If the weather conditions allow, we can do another ski climb of 300 meters different line and ski down to the start point.
First, we check out of the hotel, we have 20min. Drive to the start point of today’s ski tour.Info center of the national park Pelister is at 1360m. The ski tour duration for today is 6 hours. We are ski touring to the Pelister peak at 2601m. From the peak, we start skiing down. There are a couple of routes of descent to ski back down we will choose the best depending on the weather and snow conditions. The ski ends at the parking at the info center, where we start. We prepare for transfer to the city of Skopje, 2,30h. drive to where we spent the last night for this ski touring trip. Total ascent for the day (1240 meters ski down: 1240 meters. Duration 5 to 6 hours).
Guests will need to arrive in Skopje or Ohrid airport on or before the Start date. We will return to Skopje or Ohrid by late afternoon/evening on the day before departure from the airport.

Requirements
You need to have ski touring experience, master the ascent techniques, and ski safely and smoothly in touring terrain. The ascents will be between 900 and 1200 meters with a light daypack.
Weather and touring conditions
The weather can be very changeable, meaning fog, rain, and sunshine can alternate on the same day. We can expect temperatures from -2 to -10c between 2000 and 2600 meters per month in February. The tour program will be adapted to the conditions.
Accommodation
This is a round trip and you will visit different regions and mountains in Macedonia. We will have transfers from different areas and cities with durations of 20 minutes to 2.30 hours. We stay in three-star hotels with comfortable rooms.
Culinary delights
We enjoy full board during these days. In the cities, we enjoy meals either in a hotel or in a restaurant in the city. At hiking time, we will have a picnic lunch. The cuisine in this region is hearty and plentiful. If you have any food intolerances, we ask that you organize your meals. Vegetarian meals are possible.
Money
In Macedonia, the denar is the currency used. You can exchange money at a local exchange office you can bring euros with you. ATMs are in cities. You can pay in restaurants and stores with a credit card.
Equipment
Complete ski touring equipment and casual leisure clothing with light trekking shoes or winter boots for your stay in the hotels.
