In the southwestern part of Macedonia, like a separator that divides Ohrid and Prespa Lake, the beautiful mountain Galicica extends. The National Park Galicica is a part of the mountain, and along with the city of Ohrid and the lake, it was placed under the protection of UNESCO. From the National Park Galicica stretch the stunning views of the Ohrid Lake and Prespa Lake. It is especially attractive for visitors to observe the two beautiful lakes at the same time. It is interesting that Galicica is a karstic mountain, striking in the geographical environment with its magnificent size. The highest peak Magaro is located at an altitude of 2,254 metres. The terrain has a large presence of relict plants, with 11 plant species that can be found only at this site, and 26 endemic animal species are registered. This is due to the large amount of rain during the year. Especially striking is the number of butterflies – 1644 species in such a small area.

Magaro peak 2225 m.

The highest peak of the National Park Galicica Magaro peak is 2255m. The start of the moderate hike is from 1600m. with a 4-5 hours hike round trip and 700 meters altitude difference. During the climb, we will be able to see the two lakes Prespa and Ohrid Lake and from the peak, we will enjoy views of the Ohrid Lake and surrounding mountains in Albania.

Hiking through the villages above the coast.

The hike starts from the village of Velestovo at 1070m. above sea level and we will be walking up to 1200 m.to point named Elen Peak with beautiful views of the lake and Ohrid city. From the peak we descend through the village of Konjsko we end our hike in the village of Elshani at 890m above sea level. This easy walk through old villages with stone houses offers views of Ohrid Lake throughout. The walk will take around 3 hours and 10km. Afterward, you can either swim or we will be transferred to Ohrid to further explore the city.
